Coconut Water Without a Fridge: Storage Limits

Written by

in

An unopened product labeled shelf-stable is different from freshly opened coconut water. Do not use salt, sunlight or a homemade preservative as a substitute for refrigeration.

After opening

Refrigerate when the label requires it and use the manufacturer’s after-opening timeframe. Keep the container covered and avoid drinking directly from a container you plan to store.

When cold storage is unavailable

FDA guidance limits time at room temperature for foods that require refrigeration. Keep them cold in an insulated cooler or choose an unopened shelf-stable option for later use; discard questionable leftovers.
